A
new house in Ladue, a suburb of St. Louis, designed for the
owners to entertain, display their collection of artwork, and
to respond to the
site conditions. The sloping site is split diagonally by a dry
stream drainage structure that results in the neighboring house
on one side being shifted towards the street and the other pushed
to the back of the site. The solution involved a compact form to
reduce construction costs, with a large freestanding wall connected
to the house with a private deck that screens the back yard from
the neighbors.
