D & MF Residence

New residence created for a family with young children. The house is designed as a modified ‘H’ plan. The shared living areas are in one wing, and the master suite and children’s bedrooms above in the private wing. Between the two is a large glass-walled living room that, on the north opens to a sheltered patio, and on the south, to a large expanse of landscape with a private view.

Materials include limestone veneer and ipe rain screen walls, with a commercial aluminum and glass window system.

Jury Comments:

The siting of the house takes complete advantage of the natural environment. Organizationally and compositionally it’s true to a modernist vocabulary. It lightly touches on site.

Sited to take full advantage of the nature surrounding it, this house opens itself up internally and uses a skin of beautiful natural materials.
